J. Velloso is considered a great composer, therefore his songs are sang by artists as Maria Bethânia, Gal Costa, Daniela Mercury, Joana, Zezé Mota, Vânia Abreu, Saul Barbosa, Belô Velloso, Roque Ferreira, Mariane de Castro, and more.
As a producer, has won many awards: Sharp Award of Best Samba Disc in 1998, for the CD “Diplomacia” of the samba singer from Bahia, Batatinha, Tim Music Award in 2003, for the CD “D. Edith do Prato e Vozes da Purificação” from D. Edith do Prato and Tim Music Award in 2004 for the CD “Abre Caminho” from Mariene de Castro, besides had been nominee at Latin Grammy for the CD “Humanenochum” of the samba singer Riachão in 2000 and Tim Music Award for the composition of the song “Kirimurê” in 2007.
As a singer, has released in 2004 independently the CD “Aboio para um Rinoceronte” at Bahia, and nowadays performs in theaters and bars with his new show: “J Velloso e os Cavaleiros de Jorge”, a concert that mixes from the traditional area of Bahia ( Recôncavo),elements of the African Culture(candomblé), MPB and Brazilian POP.
